Years I have always said ‘go by like cat’s eyes on the motorway’. As I reached my 70th year, “Power and the Passion”, an exhibition to celebrate this achievement allowed me to look back over these years and try to make some sense of the road my life has taken. Looking back through past sketch books provided me with the passionate words of a young artist setting off with portfolio in hand.

Age and time have not withered or diminished this love affair I have with my Yorkshire mistress, I feel an infinite pull to stand on the moors and gaze at her beauty and contours, but just like a woman she has moods of tenderness and passion.

As I stood on the Brontë moorland with the storm approaching I could sense her turmoil and taste her tears, the gate in front of me was open as if inviting me to walk down the path and reach the sanctuary of the farm house. I chose instead to do the exact opposite of what she was telling me, I proceeded to get out my paints to capture the changing light and the drama of the occasion. The impending rain did not threaten me for I was home and at peace with my Yorkshire Mistress.

“I hope that this inner feeling lasts a lifetime and that the moorland never fails to amaze me; I still get that “wow” feeling when I step on to the moor. But, the moorland is not mine alone, she is there to be enjoyed and appreciated by others, we are just looking after our heritage for future generations.”

The first 50 Remarque’s will include a mounted original watercolour sketch (10 5/8” x 11 3/4”) which was one of the working sketches. Remarques are £585 unframed, where as Limited editions 51 -250 will be £385 unframed (All unframed limited editions will be supplied mounted and cellophane wrapped).

To avoid disappointment if you require a specific numbered Limited edition for birthday, anniversary or memorable date then we will do our best to provide you with the appropriate number but these will be allocated on a first come basis, so please do not hesitate to contact the Gallery to reserve your limited edition.
