Spot the iconic red post box at Yockenthwaite on day five of our 12 days of Yorkshire Christmas

On the fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me, the tranquility of the Yorkshire Dales with ‘The Red Post box’

Tilting on a weathered wooden post the red post box acts like a beacon in the landscape, a connection between the hamlet of Yockenthwaite and the outside world. Furthermore the dry stone bridge over the river is a natural but also perhaps an imaginary boundary which one must cross to reach the idyllic rural life of the Langstrothdale Valley.

It conjures up the romantic notion of packing up urban life and making a living off the land, an image that is far removed from the reality.
