Watercolour Memories, Wolfstones, Home Valley
Size: 28 1/4" x 21 1/2"
Mounting: Double mounted
For over forty years I have passed this farming hamlet and always felt compelled to capture its solitude. It is at Wolfstones, above Holmfirth, where local folklore alleges that the last wolf that roamed the Holme Valley, was shot.
I have always felt a great respect for farming communities, who have had to chisel an existence from the unforgiving landscape, where farmsteads cling to the hillside like a climber over a precipice.
On putting brush to paper, I have tried to capture the bleakness of the moor blanketed by snow. This is my first Limited Edition snowscape for many a year, I hope you will share with me the beauty of the first touched snow and the memories it stirs with in us.
'It is, indeed, a humbling experience to stand on the moor with a brush in your hand, capturing what you believe in your heart to be the essence and spirit of the moor, becoming so absorbed that you could hear a snowflake fall. That's a gift bestowed on me that i never can, or will take, for granted.'
